A private bus fell into a valley on ancient Mumbai-Pune Highway in Maharashtra early Monday morning killing 5 individuals and 40 others injured when a private bus fell into a valley.
The incident took place near Amrutanjan bridge-tunnel around 5 am when the luxury bus carrying about 47 travellers, was on way to Mumbai from Karad in Satara area, Khopoli police station’s senior auditor Dhanaji Kshirsagar said. He added that the driver lost control over the wheels taking after which the bus toppled and fell into a 30 to 40 feet profound valley. At least 5 individuals were killed and 40 others, counting the bus driver got serious injuries.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the accident spot after the occurrence which happened in Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Dhanaji Kshirsagar added that the victims were returning from Karad after the Diwali vacations. The Police and rescue teams carried the injured to a nearby local hospital. The deceased were yet to be identified, he said, adding that the injured people were admitted to hospitals at Khalapur, Khopoli in Raigad district and Pune.
