When it comes to Mumbai, the city welcomes Ganpati with open arms, worships the idol and showers him with sweets, gifts and lots of love. Navi Mumbaikars are nowhere behind. The preparations for Ganesh Visarjan are going on in full swing here.
Today people bid goodbye to Ganpati with heavy heart and uncontrollable tears. They chant Pudhachya Varshi Laukariya which means come soon next year.
Some of the Ganesh mandals namely Yuva Ganesh Utsav Mandal in Vashi Sector 8, Ek Gaon Ek Ganpati in CBD Belapur and Sahyog Ganesh Mandal in Nerul will be performing Ganesh Visarjan today.
The concluding day of the 10- day festival is known as Anant Chaturdashi where the devotees perform immersion of Ganesha in water bodies. The immersion process begins with Uttrang Pooja. It involves offering oil lamps, flowers and food to Lord Ganesha. After the pooja is performed the idol is moved an inch forward. This indicates that it is time for Ganpati to leave. It is believed that Ganpati idol takes away all the troubles of the house and they are immersed in the water with Lord Ganesha himself.
