Cabinet Sub – Committee reviews preparations for Supreme Court hearing
Mumbai: Chairman of the Cabinet Sub – Committee and Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan has said that the state government of Mahavikas Aghadi has made strong preparations to win the court battle of Maratha reservation.
He expressed this firm belief while talking to reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee set up to follow up the court cases of Maratha reservation at the Sahyadri Guest House here on Tuesday afternoon. Committee members Eknath Shinde, Balasaheb Thorat, Dilip Walse Patil were present at today’s meeting, while Vijay Vadettiwar participated through video conferencing from Chandrapur District Collector’s Office.
The meeting reviewed the preparations made by the legal department and the state government’s advocates for the court hearing. Some other issues related to Maratha reservation were also discussed. The members of the Sub – Committee also made some suggestions to strongly support the Maratha Reservation Bill passed unanimously in the state legislature.
Informing reporters after the meeting, Ashok Chavan said that the Supreme Court is likely to hear the original petition against Maratha reservation and the petition regarding the admission process for postgraduate medical courses on July 7. The state government has completed its preparations for this hearing. Prominent lawyer Mukul Rohatgi and other senior lawyers will represent the Maharashtra government.
A meeting of the Cabinet Sub – Committee has already been held with Mukul Rohatgi. Regarding Maratha reservation, the state government has presented its side of about 1500 pages. This reservation should be maintained, this is the role of all and the state government is working very seriously and efficiently in this regard, said Chavan.
MP. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje has written a letter to the Chief Minister and made some suggestions. Those suggestions were also discussed in today’s meeting. Most of the issues raised by him were already included in the agenda of today’s meeting. The government is working very positively on this, said Ashok Chavan. He also thanked Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje.
The meeting was attended by General Administration Secretary Shivaji Jondhale, Legislative Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat, Government Advocate Adv. Rahul Chitnis, Senior Lawyer Adv. Akshay Shinde, Adv. Vaibhav Sajgure was also present.
