Belapur: A cheque, of Rs. 50 lakhs, was handed over to Rajeshri Chetan Patil, wife of NMMC’s junior engineer Chetan Patil, by Sanjay Kakade, additional municipal commissioner, on behalf of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, from the corporation’s ‘Employees Welfare Fund’s Special Interim Grant on October 13. The said grant is being disbursed to other inheritors of NMMC employees, who died in the line of duty for the prevention, control and treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abhijit Bangar, the municipal commissioner, has notified that the period when the officers and employees of the various departments of the corporation engaged in the Corona-virus pandemic preventive duty fall sick and are under treatment and the post-recovery care period would be treated as on-duty period. This notification has been made to provide a secure atmosphere for the officers and employees engaged in COVID duty.

NMMC has decided to pay Rs. 75 lakhs to the family of officers and employees of the medical services, who succumbed to COVID-19 in the line of duty. The COVID security insurance shield of Rs 50 lakhs will be paid under the Central government’s ‘Prime Minister Welfare Package for the Poor: Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting Covid-19’ scheme. Rs. 25 lakhs will be paid from the corporation’s ‘Employees Welfare Fund’s Special Interim Grant’. For officers and employees not in the medical services, who succumb while on COVID duty like survey, identification, preventive measures, treatment and care, their inheritors will be paid Rs. 50 lakhs from the corporation’s special interim grant.
