Over 100 Free Heart Surgeries, 7500 Children Screened and 500 Pregnant Women Covered in the Trust’s Kharghar Center
Kharghar: ‘There can be nothing better in the world than saving lives and having more smiling faces’ expressed Sachin Tendulkar, the youngest recipient of India’s highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna. He was addressing at the ‘first year of services completion’ function of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Center for Child Heart Care and Training in Pediatric Cardiac Skills, here in Panvel on November 27.
The first year services by the SSSS Center, here, included over 100 totally free heart surgeries, screening of more than 7500 children for Congenital Heart Disease and covering over 500 pregnant women in the primary health program.
The Gift of Life certificates were handed over by the ‘God of Indian cricket’, Sachin Tendulkar, the Navi Mumbai police commissioner Sanjay Kumar, Medical Health Officer – Panvel Municipal Corporation Sachin Jadhav, Chancellor of the Sri Satya Education Trust University B. N. Narsimhamoorthy, chairman of Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust C. Sreenivas and the chief executive and trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centers for Child Heart Care and the Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust Madhusudan Sai, to the children operated during the week and their parents.
A heart-touching dance drama depicting the Gift of Life by the staff at the Center was presented on the occasion.
Sachin Tendulkar also brought out the enormity of the Congenital Heart Disease situation in the country by informing that only 10 % of the 300,000 afflicted every year receive treatment.
Lauding the noble task of everyone at the Center, he remarked that the center did not give the feel of a hospital and half the recovery is done when you win the patients’ heart. He spoke to the patients, their parents, the staff and the doctors and remarked that many children who recovered wanted to stay back and serve at the center. Such experiences, he said, leaves an everlasting impression.
Madhusudan Sai recited a Sanskrit poem that defined the very soul of the Trust viz. Serve Society to make Society Better. Stating that over 100 dreams were given wings to take to the skies in one year at the center, he expressed that there was no sight better than a child smiling, no sound better than a child giggling and no touch better than the new born child clinging to the finger.
Informing that there is a waiting list of 3000 patients, he stated that the first year has been a baby step and aspired to do much more to serve more and more needing this congenital heart care.
C. Sreenivas asserted that when there is a will, success is inbuilt in the effort. He complimented the Muthialas for completing the construction of the Center on a watery land in just 365 days.
He added that the Trust’s Child Heart Care centers in Atal Nagar, Chattisgarh, Palwal, Haryana and Kharghar, Maharashtra have been a journey of self discovery for Sachin Tendulkar, who symbolizes greatness transcending to reverence and hence will be remembered for posterity.
He announced that Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar intend to launch a foundation and work with the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Center for the tribals in the region.
He further added that the task is arduous, but the Trust is in the game and with Sachin they are confident to be on top of the game.
