On Monday during auction at the Kalwan Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) the wholesale price of onions was tremendously high upto Rs 11,000 per quintal. First trading day of December was on Monday and wholesale price of onions was at the peak this season in Nashik district which is a major producer of the vegetable. Previous highest wholesale auction price was Rs 9,000 per quintal. Onion prices in august, ranged between Rs 1,000-3,000 per quintal and Rs 2,400 per quintal was the average price. The maximum price increased to Rs 4,500 per quintal in October and the average price was Rs 3,800. The maximum price In November reached Rs 9,000 a quintal mark, whereas Rs 4,900 was the average price .At APMC, there was no auction of summer onion but red onions which were brought in around 250 vehicles were auctioned. The average rate was Rs 7,100 a quintal and the prices ranged between minimum Rs 3, 0000 per quintal to maximum Rs 8,401 per quintal. This season Rs 8,401 per quintal is the highest auction rate for red onions recorded at APMC. The previous highest price was Rs 6,565 a quintal. Sources informed that the prices of red onions ranged between Rs 1, 8006,565 per quintal and the average rate was Rs 5,001.
