Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has announced that around 30 electric buses will run across the city by the end of October. NMMT is also establishing 18 battery charging stations across the city. Two charging stations are located at Turbhe depot which are functioning while additional stations will be ready by next month. The routes will be decided as per the demand of the commuters, each bus can carry 35 passengers. In total NMMT runs 500 buses routing across Navi Mumbai, Mumbai and Thane.
Under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric (and Hybrid) Vehicles (FAME) scheme, the central government catered NMMT with 60% subsidy for buses and 10% subsidy for charging facilities. In order to cut down the pollution rate, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in August 2018 authorized the proposal by NMMT of possessing 30 electric buses. The first e-bus was delivered in August and other 14 electric buses were delivered last week.
We tried contacting Mr. Shirish Aradwad, Transport manager of NMMC but he was unavailable.
