CM Orders Constituting Study Committee to Submit Report in 8 Days

Vashi: Legislator Manda Vijay Mhatre, setting aside politics and personal ego, met Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister of Maharashtra, to seek 4 F.S.I. for the redevelopment of CIDCO-built, APMC and private old buildings in Navi Mumbai. Eknath Shinde, urban development minister of the State and guardian minister of Thane district, Ashish Singh, chief secretary, principal secretary Bhushan Gagrani, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, managing director of CIDCO Ltd. and Abhijit Bangar, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner were present on the occasion along with other concerned officials.

“The CM ordered the constituting of a committee to study and report in 8 days the implementation of my proposal and this is a real Diwali gift to the city”, informed Mandatai at a press meet here on November 12. Corporator Sampat Shewale and BJP leaders Vijay Ghate and Rajesh Patil also graced the dais at the press briefing.

The State has approved 2.5 FSI for this, which is not sufficient to enable redevelopment, stating so, Manda Mhatre demanded 4 FSI and the appointment of developers like Larsen & Toubro, Shapoorji Pallonji. Tata and B.G. Shirke for the same to ensure quality and bigger homes for the residents and to avoid the cheating of the residents. The CM also took a positive decision on this and ordered the officials to grant 4 FSI for redevelopment of dilapidated structures in the city, stated Manda Mhatre.

Several buildings in the APMC market and CIDCO-built residences are in a dilapidated condition and the NMMC has declared many of them to be dangerous for occupation. Reports of portions of these structures falling have become frequent which is life threatening too, Mandatai informed the CM.

The announcement has brought cheer to the residents as one resident of sector 17 here remarked, “only an FSI of 4 could make redevelopment of old buildings in sectors like sector 17 of Vashi feasible and Manda Mhatre’s initiative is a step in the right direction. Only if the officials show efficiency in proper planning of required infrastructure in the redevelopment plan, can the project be approved and implemented. Can the CM ensure this, is the moot question and residents will await an early execution to thwart the impending disaster.”
