Mumbai: Karnataka retained its position as the most innovative major state in the country in the India Innovation Index 2020 released by NITI Aayog on January 20, 2021. Karnataka scored 42.5, followed by Maharashtra at second place with a score of 38 and Tamil Nadu at third place with 37.91 score. Bihar was ranked last in the index with 14.5 score. The state has bounced from third place in 2019 to second place in 2020, said Nawab Malik, Minister for Skills Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship on Sunday.
Malik expressed that Maharashtra has accomplished victory in the ‘India Development Index’ given by the Niti Aayog for inventive activities in different initiatives for skills development, promotion for startups, different types of innovation, and development of concepts. The India Innovation Index ranks the States and Union territories for their comparative performance of innovative activities.
Malik added that there are two dimensions of innovation to make the index. These incorporate Innovation Capabilities and Innovation Outcomes. The last India Innovation Index was published in October 2019. This is the first time such a report has been published last year surveying the innovation capabilities of the states and union territories.
Due to the joint endeavours of numerous government departments in the state as well as Maharashtra State Innovation Society, Mumbai Fintech Hub, the State of Maharashtra has come second in the India Innovation Index. He moreover said that the Maharashtra State Innovation Society would make sure the state a vital innovation system with the launch of Maharashtra Startup Week, network of incubators over the state, activities like startup yatra, considerable money related provision for new startups, he noted.
