Navi Mumbai: Around 5,000 APMC workers got themselves tested for Covid-19 on Sunday. As per the latest figures, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases stands at 314, including 48 patients who have recovered. Also, over 4,000 people have been tested for the virus.

Commissioner explained how the city is at risk since essential service employees go to Mumbai and come back home. In a video recorded on Sunday, he said that 90 percent of those who tested positive include those who travel back and forth from Mumbai every day. He also said the (BMC) shall make adequate arrangements for the employees in Mumbai itself amid the extended lockdown.

“The employees will not have to come back to Navi Mumbai every day and as discussed with Chief Minister via a video conference, employees including healthcare workers and BEST employees among others will stay in Mumbai. Bankers will have to ask their banks to make arrangements for them,” he said.

He also said that since Navi Mumbai falls under the Red Zone, alcohol shops have not been given permission to open. Only essential service offices shall remain functional, he added.

So far, there are 75 containment zones in the NMMC region and the APMC market is one of the crucial areas.

The Commissioner further said that emergency civic works related to monsoon shall be done keeping the safety norms in mind. “However, private construction works will not be allowed, unless it is related to any kind of emergency or disaster management. In such a scenario, the contractor will have to take permission from NMMC before starting the work.
