Panvel: The Loknete D. B. Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport All-Party Action Committee organised a Human Chain Signal Agitation on June 10 to demand the naming of the airport here after Loknete D. B. Patil. The Action Committee announced the agitation in response to the CIDCO Board of Directors approving the resolution to name the airport after Hinduhriday Samrat Shri Balasaheb Thackeray and sending it for the State government’s approval in May, 2021.

Even as the human chain agitation evoked overwhelming response in Pen, Panvel, Karjat, Alibaug, Murbad and other parts of Raigad district, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan – Dombivli and Thane in Thane district, the Maharashtra State cabinet unanimously approved the resolution of the CIDCO Board of Directors on the same day on June 10. Thousands of participants will gather at CIDCO Bhavan in Belapur, Navi Mumbai on D. B. Patil’s death anniversary on June 24 to intensify the stir and voice their demand.

B. Patil, the other generation who only read and heard about the charisma of the fearless, relentless fighter for the PAPs and ‘the generation like mine, who know nothing else but DiBa (as D. B. Patil is popularly and fondly referred to) and considering him their deity plunged into the agitation, in salutation to the courageous warrior called DiBa’.

Legislators Prashant Thakur and Mahesh Baldi led BJP workers, who participated in a bike rally from D. B. Patil’s statue in Jasai to Uran. In Neral, Karjat the Agri Samaj Sanghatana formed a human chain on the 7 kms route from the Hutatma Chowk to the Hutatma Smarak.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation jurisdiction co-ordination committee of the Loknete D. B. Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport All-Party Action Committee successfully organised the Human Chain Signal Agitation through 29 villages and 12 hamlets in the city. This was earlier announced at a press conference in the Shiravane Vidyalaya, here on June 4 by legislator Rameshdada Patil, chief co-ordinator Manohar Patil and Dr. Rajesh Patil in the presence of the president of the Navi Mumbai co-ordination committee Dashrath Bhagat, Deepak H. Patil, Nilesh Patil, Sainathbuva Patil, Shailesh Ghag, Sunil Patil, Thakur Pandurang Bhoir, Prabhakar Thakur and Manoj Meher.

Rameshdada Patil stated that the sons-of-the-soil have been waging struggles constantly from the acquisition of land for the Navi Mumbai project to the naming of the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport for their due compensation and rehabilitation rights. He stressed that all the villagers stood as one in proposing just one name for the airport, that of D. B. Patil, and insisted that the government should accept this demand in appreciation of the sacrifices made by the villagers, farmers, labourers and workers led by Loknete D. B. Patil.

Dr. Rajesh Patil called upon the government to respect the sentiments of the project-affected people and warned that no other name would be allowed or accepted for the international airport in the city.

Manohar Patil briefed about the human chain signal stir and appealed to the government to refrain from being adamant and arrogant and heed the demands of the local residents. He added that there were several bigger projects in the offing in the region like the Sewri – Nhava Sheva trans harbour link, the coastal road that could be named after any person that the government insists.

The human chain moved through the 21.5 km route in 20 patches from the Metro bridge in Belapur to the Digha pond in Vitawa, following all COVID restrictions and norms.

The agitation flag was released on the occasion by the leaders present and an informative leaflet highlighting the achievements and relentless struggles waged by late D. B. Patil for the project-affected people that ensured justice for project-affected people all over the State.
