Mumbai: Philanthropist, popular leader and former Member of Parliament Shri Ramshet Thakur was awarded the Shivneri Daily’s ‘Corona Devdoot’ Award at the hands of the Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagatsingh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan here on October 14, for his yeomen charitable services to a cross section of needy people and COVID-19 warriors during the present global pandemic. Former minister of state for home of Maharashtra Kripa Shankar Singh graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The others awarded on the occasion were Dr. Jagannathrao Hegde, Dr. Amey Desai, Prashant Karulkar and Liladhar Chavan.


Ramshet Thakur along with his sons, legislator Prashant Thakur and leader of the House in the Panvel City Municipal Corporation served all sections of the Panvel community during the lockdown crisis necessitated to contain the spread of the dreaded pandemic. Their ‘Modi Bhojan’ kitchens fed thousands of stranded migrants and needy villagers, tribals and city dwellers. They distributed free food-grains and other essentials, food packets, face masks, sanitizers and medicines to thousands of needy people and the COVID-19 warriors that included police, municipal and medical personnel.
Ramshet Thakur generously provided monetary assistance to artistes and journalists and gave Rs.5 lakhs to the family of veteran journalist Santosh Pawar, who succumbed to the corona-virus.
