The weather bureau on Monday issued a forecast on heavy rainfall in the coming days in Mumbai.
Thunderstorm and lightning were reported in several parts of the city last night. Heavy rain and lightning started from Thane, Palghar, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Bhiwandi around 9 pm on Monday while the suburban areas like Malad, Chembur, Santacruz and Ghatkoper received a moderate rainfall. At the same time drizzle with lightning was reported at southern part of Mumbai.
6 international and 16 domestic flights were diverted to other airports in Delhi, Ahmedabad,and Hyderabad. The cyclone “Vayu” which was formed in the south Arabian Sea is likely to move towards the western coast through Goa and Gujarat clearing the way for heavy rain along the Konkan coast including Mumbai. People have been asked to not enter in to the sea in the coming days.
Mumbai fire brigade department issued a statement saying lifeguards were posted at Mumbai’s most visited beaches like Girgaon, Juhu, Dadar Versova, Gorai and Aksa.
