Mumbai, Feb 15: With climate change, the cases of swine flu are found in the state and so far 145 patients are being treated. Swine flu patients are found in the state this time along with Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. To prevent the occurrence of swine flu the government has embarked upon a five-point strategy of survey, diagnosis, treatment, vaccination and public awareness.
To generate mass awareness about swine flu use of various media should be made besides group meetings, workshops, awareness campaign at school level, yatra, festivals, health education at weekly markets, etc. comprehensives programs should be implemented. Health Minister Eknath Shinde has issued directives to health officials of the department, municipal corporations and zilla parishad.
Since January till date 3.50 lakh patients were examined. Out of them 4000 patients were given Tammy flu tablets. 145 swine patients are being treated in different hospitals of the state. 10 patients at Pune, Nagpur, Nasik, Thane and Solapur are put on ventilator. 17 patients have died of this disease so far.
Directives are issued to the department to initiate a comprehensive action plan undertake mass awareness campaign in the month of February. Information should be given regarding the spread of this disease, symptoms, preventive measures and steps to arrest its spread to the common people. Similarly, in all the secondary schools, nurses, health workers etc. should guide them. In rural areas Village Health cleanliness committees, and nutrition committees and in urban areas women health committee meetings should be organized to generate awareness and convey the preventive message in the society.
In most places of the state yatra, jatra, and festivals are organized in the state in this season, These events can be utilized to create mass awareness about swine flu, the Health Minister directed the officials. Regular check-up and survey of swine flu like patients is being done and sud-district dispensaries and medical college hospitals have been directed to set up isolation rooms. Sufficient stock of tammy flu tablets is available, health minister said.
