The CIDCO Board of Directors accorded in principal approval to appoint Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to undertake the work on Navi Mumbai’s Metro Lines 2 &3. DMRC will be implementing both these lines on Deposit terms.
The Government of Maharashtra is implementing the Navi Mumbai Metro Rail project in Navi Mumbai through CIDCO. CIDCO has undertaken the elevated Metro Railway Corridor from the year 2011 for better connectivity between the various nodes of Navi Mumbai and between Navi Mumbai and the rest of MMR region to provide a speedy means of public transport to the citizens of Navi Mumbai. The work for preparing the DPR for Line No. 2 and 3 of Navi Mumbai Metro Railway Project was given to DMRC in the year 2009-10. Later the work for preparing the DPR for Line No. 3 and 4 and of validating the DPR already prepared for Line No. 2, was assigned to M/s. RITES Ltd. in the year 2017. Based on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the corridor – I as Belapur-Kharghar-Pendhar –Taloja-MIDC-Kalamboli-Khandeshwar to be extended to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be developed in phases.
The first phase of Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Corridor – Line No. 1 (Belapur to Pendhar) is underway with an elevated length of 11.10 kms comprising of 11 stations, 1 depot at an estimated cost of Rs. 3063.63 crores. Six coaches exported from China for the Metro Railway proposed to run on Line No. 1 have arrived at the Taloja Car shed. Various works for Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Line – 1 is in progress with its scheduled empty trial run planned by end of November 2019 and commencement of commercial operations by June 2020.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Metro Line II & III has been submitted by M/s. RITES Ltd. The Board has accorded Administrative Approval to implement NMM Line III (Pendhar to MIDC) for Rs. 1750.14 Cr and NMM Line II (MIDC to Khandeshwar) for Rs. 2820.20 Cr. After obtaining the necessary approval for NMM Line 4, the necessary plan will be put into action.At present, the Delhi Metro network consists of about 373 km with 271 stations and has undertaken projects beyond Delhi. Apart from providing Delhites with a comfortable public transport option, the Delhi Metro is contributing immensely towards controlling pollution as well as reducing vehicular congestion on roads. Considering the vast experience and capability of DMRC and timely completion of projects, the decision to award DMRC with NMM Line II & III project was taken unanimously by the Board of Directors, CIDCO. The scope of work, responsibility matrix of DMRC & CIDCO, seeking financial assistance and Notification of alignment from GOI & GOM etc. will be finalized with detailed dialogue with DMRC after the ‘In Principal Approval’. In this regard, a letter has been addressed to MD, DMRC requesting to prepare the terms & conditions and send the draft Contract Agreement at the earliest in order to finalize the same.
