Industrialization and pollution are two sides of the same coin, so wherever there are industries there will definitely be pollution. Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is taking various measures to reduce this pollution. To know more about Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), Reporter Samah Rumani interviewed Satish Shetty, Chairman of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP).

Question: What is the process of waste management and how does it take place In MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation)?

Answer: We have 974 industries in total. Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) has an integrated pipeline which is connected to every industry. The primary treatment is done within companies itself and secondary treatment is done at Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for smaller industries. Larger industries have to do both primary and secondary treatment.

Question: What is total area of land allotted for MIDC(Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation)?

Answer: The total land allotted by MIDC(Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation)is 13 Acres.

Question: What are the total number of industry which are operational and non-operational?

Answer: We have wastage coming from different sectors and engineering industry are more in numbers. We have total number of 370 industries in chemical sector.

Question: Are there any new policy coming up?

Answer: As of now there is no new policy coming up.

Question: What are the measurements you took to solve the problem of electricity in Taloja?

Answer: MSEB(Maharashtra State Electricity Board) has been proactive in solving the problems in Taloja. In coming 6-7 months there will be a change in whole setup, Ms boxes, Junction boxes are going to be removed and replaced.

Question: Can you tell us about the condition of fire station?

Answer: Fire station in Taloja is proactive. Large scale industries have their own fire brigade. MARG (Mutual Aid Response Group) and DISH(Directorial Head Of Industrial Safety and Health) are organisations which help industries if it catches fire. Local industries under MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) and fire brigade come to rescue if any fire accident takes place.

Question: What are the upcoming projects?

Answer: Currently we are having 22.5 MLD(Megaliters Per Day) and we are planning to extend it to 27.5 MLD(Megaliters Per Day). In total we are getting 17 to 18 MLD(Megaliters Per Day) per day in addition to that we have spare capacity of 5 MLD(Megaliters Per Day)

Question: We have found that NGT (National green tribunal) has fined Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) tell us more about that.

Answer: In 2017, local corporator Arvind Mhatre filed a case against CETP(Common Effluent Treatment Plant) due to non-performance and he has taken this matter to NGT (National green tribunal), Pune. NGT (National green tribunal) found that Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is not following the law purpose by MPCB (Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) NGT (National green tribunal) has find Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) Rs.10 crores. Rs.6.10 crores have been paid. We are  trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
