On March 7, Netra Ashish Shirke at the special NMMC general body meeting proposed for the 1st time the allocation of Rs.2 Crores for Transgenders. The mayor of Navi Mumbai, Shri Jaywant Sutar, appreciated the proposal and got it approved by the general body unanimously.
During a candid chat with our Reporter Samah Rumani, Netra Shirke shares why it was a need to give transgenders a budget.
Netra Shrike expressed her sympathy towards transgenders and said that many welfare schemes are made for Women, Children and other communities including ST & SC, but transgender community is always ignored. Inspired by the policies of UN budget schemes ie. Every budget should have particular section and amount allotted for the welfare for women, she recommended the scheme of Transgenders Budget. Further telling more about the budget she added, they have created schemes while keeping three thing in mind: health, education and livelihood.
Netra Shirke concluded by saying, “2 Crore budget has been suggested, it can be extended once policies and schemes are discussed and implemented”.
