Belapur: Additional Divisional Commissioner of Nagpur division, Abhijit Bangar took over charge from Annasaheb Misal as the new municipal commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on July 14. Stating that his priority would be to control the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in the city, Abhijit called for everyone’s co-operation and assured to strive to meet the expectations of the city residents.
An economics post-graduate from Pune University, Abhijit is an I.A.S. officer of the 2008 batch. He has earlier served as an assistant collector and deputy divisional officer of Mangaon, chief executive officer at Raigad and Satara Zilla Parishads and as the principal of Gokhale Institute, Pune.
He is known for his excellent work, as the first collector of the newly carved Palghar district, in resolving the malnutrition issues of the pre-dominant tribal district. His stint as the Collector of Amravati too, has noteworthy. As the civic chief of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, his leadership in motivating citizens to segregate the dry and wet garbage of the city at the source of the garbage generation, helped the city raise its ranking in the cleanliness survey under the Swatch Bharat Mission.
Apart from this, as the municipal commissioner, Abhijit Bangar initiated several people-welfare amenities and programs in Nagpur city and is reputed to be an efficient officer.
